PTO: Prioritize Time Outdoors

Book Abstract

American working professionals recognize the benefits in spending time outdoors, but they face various challenges in doing so, from limited paid time off from work (PTO) to a lack of knowledge or aptitude in simply getting started. Though they are an audience with disposable income, many view outdoor adventure to be beyond their typical inclinations or comfort zones.

This book, written from the perspective of a career human resources professional, aspires to give other outdoors-curious working professionals the basic tools, knowledge, and inspiration to explore nature. It lays out the reasons why spending time outdoors is good for us (and can even improve our work). It identifies a host of obstacles keeping working Americans from exploring the outdoors and describes strategies for overcoming those obstacles. Finally, it offers a series of pointers for planning successful dayhikes, campground experiences, and backcountry adventures designed to resonate with this unique audience in an engaging, humorous, approachable manner.
